Digital India is a flagship programme launched in July 2015 with the vision of transforming India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy. Built on nine strategic pillars, it integrates broadband infrastructure, digital payments, document management, and citizen service delivery into a unified governance architecture. Its key components — BharatNet, DigiLocker, and UPI — have redefined India's e-governance landscape and are now central to the country's public service delivery model.
Digital India operates on three broad vision areas: digital infrastructure as a utility, governance and services on demand, and digital empowerment of citizens. 4.1 BharatNet
BharatNet (formerly National Optical Fibre Network — NOFN) is the government's flagship initiative to provide broadband connectivity to all gram panchayats (GPs) in India through state-of-the-art optical fibre network. Key features:

4.2 DigiLocker

Legal status: Documents issued via DigiLocker are legally equivalent to physical originals under the IT Act, 2000 (Section 7A, as amended)
