Agriculture consumes the bulk of India's freshwater - roughly four-fifths - yet much of it is lost through inefficient flood irrigation even as groundwater tables fall. What is Micro-Irrigation and Why It Matters
Micro-irrigation applies water directly and slowly to the plant's root zone, minimising evaporation, runoff and deep percolation losses. In drip irrigation, water (and dissolved fertiliser, called fertigation) reaches each plant through a network of pipes and emitters; in sprinkler irrigation, water is sprayed over the field under pressure, mimicking rainfall.
